As the world starts to emerge from the post COVID era, event organisers need to consider how the pandemic can affect the way they host in-person events. Here are three that our team has come up with that will get you started.
- Follow local precautions: Monitor trusted local sources and follow the best practices from your local state government to maximise the well-being of you, your team, and attendees and to deliver a successful event. For national guidelines in Australia visit https://www.health.gov.au/ or for global guidelines visit the WHO website https://www.who.int/emergencies/diseases/novel-coronavirus-2019/advice-for-public.
- Review your agenda: Evaluate if there are opportunities to reduce the risk of transferring illnesses. If, for example, you are organising a music festival here are some tips to enhance your COVID prevention strategy;
- easy access to hand sanitising stations and disposable masks
- Promoting the COVID safe app in your ticket sales
- Educational posters on best practices
- Regular cleaning of bathrooms and services
- Making sure staff are educated about the risks and how to prevent them
Communicate with your attendees, often: Let your attendees know that your event is still on and outline the precautions you will be taking at the event. This could include recommendations such as discouraging handshakes (stick with smiles and waves), staying home if you feel unwell, and washing your hands often and for 20 seconds. Encourage the use of hand sanitiser at every opportunity.
